Co. Cavan Juvenile Uneven Ages, Junior and Masters Cross Country

Killnaleck was the venue on Saturday last for the County Juvenile Uneven Ages, Junior and Masters Cross Country. This was opening cross country event of the 2005/2006 season and was hosted by Innyvale A.C. Weather conditions threatened to spoil what was an excellent day of athletics. An enthusiastic crowd of athletes and supporters enjoyed a fine display of cross country running by some of the county’s leading runners.

Masters

In the Master Men 3km event Albert Eakins Shercock A.C set out to retain his title. Eakins set off a strong pace from the start, breaking away from the field on the opening lap he ran home a convincing winner. The silver medal was won Brian O’ Reilly Laragh A.C who held of the challenge of Shercock’s Colin Watterson who secured the bronze. Michael Smith of Laragh was unfortunate just missing out on a medal finishing in fourth place. Good runs from John Donnellan, Nicholas Comey and Jim O’Dowd ensured the team title went to Baileboro.

In the Ladies Masters 2km event Annalee’s Evelyn O’ Reilly never looked challenged in taking the title from last years winner Monica Sheridan of Mullahoran AC who went on to secure the silver. Team P Elliot’s pairing Michelle Mutton and Daoidre Brady finished in third and fourth respectively. Mags Fitzpatrick, Eileen Watters along with race winner O’ Reilly won the team title for Annalee A.C.

Juniors

The Junior Men’s 6km race was the longest race of the day. A Strong Early pace set by Shercock’s Noel Carroll was followed by Annalee’s Fionan O’ Reilly. Noel’s constant injection of pace proved too much for O’ Reilly who had to concede for the silver. This left Baileboro’s Briain O’ Dowd and Muldoon brothers James and Peter to battle it out for the bronze. On this occasion O’ Dowd came off the better to secure the medal from the ever tiring James Muldoon.

Meanwhile, lack of competition did not deter Junior Ladies runner Sinead O’ Keefe of Innyvale from completing the 3.5km course to a great applause.
