August 16th - Positive End to Season as Neil Williams wins Masters Hammer and Albinas Kiltinavicius sets new Javelin Record

The curtain came down on the 2009 track season today as the country's leading masters athletes battled it out for national titles in Tullamore. Taking part in his first competition in the Shercock vest, Neil Williams was rewarded with the gold medal in the M35 age group when he tossed the hammer an impressive 41.65m, falling just centimeters short of Hugh Fitzpatrick's club record. Albinas Kiltinavicius went one step further, breaking his own club and county record with an impressive 44.45m throw in the M40 javelin. Albinas was unlucky, however, to miss out on the medals, finishing in fourth place in a highly competitive age group.

Interestingly, Neil's result in Tullamore means that Shercock athletes have now won national titles at juvenile, junior, senior and masters level in 2009 - not a bad year by any measure!

August 1st - Positive Performances at Celtic Games & Irish Senior Championships

Shauna McGeever broke the club record for the women's pole vault when she cleared 2.50m at the Celtic games in Wales today. Shauna was delighted with her performance which also stands as a new county record. She is pictured right with fellow Cavan athlete Cian O'Reilly who also represented Ulster in Wales, finishing fourth in the under 18 1500m.

The Irish senior championships provided another successful outing for Richard Tsang who made a great improvement to his triple jump PB when he recorded 12.58m to finish in fifth place overall. Richard has been gradually closing the gap on the club triple jump record of 12.60m and will hopefully eclipse it in the near future. Brian Flatley matched his PB of 3.80m when finishing 9th in the pole vault and hopes to break through the 4m ceiling in the near future. Brian is about to move to Reading to pursue a PhD in Cancer Research and we all wish him the best for his future there.

Catherina Mullen (right) contested the Junior Womens 3000m championships, which was included in the senior programme in Santry, and ran well to finish 3rd in a time of 10:41.41.

Matthew O'Reilly achieved a personal best of 4.70m when finishing second in the under 23 Weight for Height which was held alongside the national senior championships in Santry.

Catherina, who missed out on the schools all-Ireland due to injury, made the trip to Tullamore from the Gaeltacht where she is in the middle of a summer course, however she showed no ill effects from her time off training and was delighted with her result in Tullamore.

 July 5th - National League

Well done to everyone who contributed to the club's premier league campaign this year, which ended at the second round in Athlone on Sunday. A depleted squad struggled to challenge for top positions on the day but still managed to secure 66 points which when added to our round 1 total of 85 left Shercock in 12th place overall. This was not enough to reach the final but left us clear of the relegation zone - a good achievement under the circumstances

Best performances on the day came from Brian Flatley (2nd 110m hurdles, 3rd pole vault) and Paul Fitzpatrick (left) (2nd walk and 3rd steeplechase). Also performing well were Richard Tsang (4th triple jump), Matthew O'Reilly (4th shot putt) and Albinas Kiltinavicius (4th javelin). Further useful points were won by Sean Carolan (5th WFD) and Noel Carroll (5th 5000m).
