August 16th - Positive End to Season as Neil Williams wins Masters Hammer and Albinas Kiltinavicius sets new Javelin Record

August 1st - Positive Performances at Celtic Games & Irish Senior Championships
The Irish senior championships provided another successful outing for Richard Tsang who made a great improvement to his triple jump PB when he recorded 12.58m to finish in fifth place overall. Richard has been gradually closing the gap on the club triple jump record of 12.60m and will hopefully eclipse it in the near future. Brian Flatley matched his PB of 3.80m when finishing 9th in the pole vault and hopes to break through the 4m ceiling in the near future. Brian is about to move to Reading to pursue a PhD in Cancer Research and we all wish him the best for his future there.
Matthew O'Reilly achieved a personal best of 4.70m when finishing second in the under 23 Weight for Height which was held alongside the national senior championships in Santry. |

Treadmill Marathon Fundraiser
June 26th - Athletic Club members were out in force today to support two fund raising efforts for the track development. The Credit Union plaza in Shercock was the venue for a treadmill marathon, where an enthusiastic bunch of athletes and fitness runners put in their time on the treadmills to complete a marathon during the day in a fundraiser organised by Ann Lynch. Meanwhile a second fund-raising effort was under way at Tesco in Bailieborough where Margaret Ruxton led a squad of bag packers at the tills where many grateful shoppers made generous donations to the project. Noel Carroll continued to display good form with a strong run in the Blackwater 10km. Paddy Cassidy led the race out from the start and soon broke away of the field to secure first place. Noel found himself in a battle for second with Bailieborough's Martin Fulton in the chasing group. At the 5km mark Noel made a strong attack which took him away from the pack and clear into second place, a position he held until the finish. The tough Rossmore forest course didn't produce any fast times however. 1. Patrick Cassidy 34.06 2. Noel Carroll 35:07 3. Martin Fulton 35:31. Also running in Monaghan were Conor and Brian McCarey with Brian finishing in the mid 37s and Conor in the mid 38 mins. In the age group events there were further impressive performances by Hannah Schneider (2nd junior women), Jess Drohan (1st u14) and Kelly Colton (2nd u14). |

The impressive new Mondo track at Athlone's Institute of Technology played host to the AAI Games today. The well-appointed facility will surely become a mainstay of Ireland's athletics infrastructure in years to come and turned out well on its opening day. Taking advantage of the new track were Shercock athletes Brian Flatley, Paul Smith, Richard Tsang and Paul Fitzpatrick who completed a varied programme of events. Brian Flatley completed his customary double at hurdles and pole vault, finishing third in the senior hurdles and matching his PB with a 3.80m clearance in the pole vault for fourth place. Paul Fitzpatrick contested the u23 5km racewalk, which was run as a championship event, and also matched his PB when finishing second to Micheal Doyle in 21:58 minutes. Richard Tsang was second in the triple jump with a best effort of 11.99m and also finished sixth in the long jump with 6.03m. Paul Smith finished third in the long jump with a best jump of 6.62m. |
